WM 26 Main Event Picture Predictions (Post-Elimination Chamber) – “The Champ” Jeff Peck

The Wrestlemania 26 main event picture got a little bit clearer at the end of the WWE Elimination Chamber PPV this past Sunday night. Two new World Champions crowned on three title changes. I applaud the WWE creative team on putting together a pretty solid pay per view as we enter the big Wrestlemania 26 event.

As I discussed on the first “The Still Real to us Show” with Eric Gargiulo, it appeared that the Elimination Chamber PPV was pretty predictable with the real question mark coming from the Raw Elimination Chamber main event more then the Smackdown Elimination Chamber main event. For the most part we were right with our predictions as Jericho captured the World Heavyweight Championship thanks to Shawn Michaels.

That moment set up two main event matches for Wrestlemania 26 in Glendale, Arizona. For one we will be getting Undertaker/Shawn Michaels again at Wrestlemania. It was going to be interesting whether or not creative would keep the title on Undertaker going into Wrestlemania but due to HBK and Undertaker more then likely taking time off after Wrestlemania they decided it was time to drop the gold.

Wrestling fans get what they want which is nice for a change as Undertaker and Shawn Michaels will go at it again at Wrestlemania. It is going to be hard to follow up their match from WM25 but if they can it might be the greatest wrestlemania match of all-time. Wrestling fans can not complain about creative giving us that match.

So Chris Jericho wins the World Heavyweight Championship thanks to HBK of all people and we get our 2nd main event picture become a little bit clear. While “anything can happen in the WWE,” it’s pretty obvious that we will be seeing Edge cash in on his royal rumble title shot on Chris Jericho’s title.

Once again creative gives the fans a match they want to see by putting Chris Jericho and Edge one-on-one with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. No question this match will be fun to watch as the two best heels of the decade go at it on the grand stage of Wrestlemania. Hopefully this match lives up to the hype as it could be on the same level as an Undertaker/Shawn Michaels bout.

Now onto the Raw Elimination Chamber match where while there were three potential winners of the match (Sheamus, Triple H and John Cena), I predicted the title staying on Sheamus heading into a Wrestlemania main event match between Sheamus and Triple H for the WWE Championship. The reason being is because Cena/Batista doesn’t need a title to make their match interesting because creative has given that bout the build it deserves.

Sheamus/Triple H wouldn’t be as big as Undertaker/HBK, Jericho/Edge or Cena/Batista. But it would give the fans a solid FOUR main event bouts for the biggest show of the year. Keeping the title on Sheamus would make him more believable and would continue “The Game’s” streak of main eventing Wrestlemania. I still think we will get Sheamus/Triple H at Wrestlemania but the build is not as strong as the three other matches we have discussed in this blog.

WWE creative gave us a great swerve by giving John Cena the championship only for Vince McMahon to stop the celebration and send Batista to the ring for an immediate match for the WWE Championship. While I would have preferred this bout to have no title involved as it can sit on it’s own as a solid main event match for Wrestlemania; it still makes me interested in tuning into Raw on Monday night. It has helped build the Cena/Batista match as well as elevate the Bret Hart/Vince McMahon angle even more.

As I said on “The Still Real to us Show,” kudos to Batista for being the MVP heading into Wrestlemania. He has become one of the best heels in the business in a short time and has helped make this Cena/Batista feud what it is today. It feels like a big match and it should be.

The picture for Wrestlemania 26 is getting a little bit clearer and the main event picture is almost official barring any change in the coming weeks. With that being said here is what I believe the Main Event picture will be now with some updated “undercard matches” that I will touch upon on another blog.
